Our Bodies

Have you ever stopped and really thought about the intricate working of your body? I find it hard to imagine how perfectly everything in our bodies functions, seemingly on automatic pilot.

We breathe in oxygen and our life is sustained. It is converted to needed nutrients in our blood and feeds our brain and other organs. There are miles of veins and arteries in our bodies and they just keep circulating blood automatically. Our liver functions and our kidneys work with no apparent effort on our part.

We process light through our corneas and see the most wondrous world around us and our loved ones. Some little hammer in our ears works in a mysterious way and we hear music, song birds and others as they speak.

Our glands secrete hormones as needed, some on a cyclical basis, and do so with regularity and consistency. Our stomachs process the foods we eat and use the energy stored in those foods. When we need water our thirst is triggered to help us keep from becoming dehydrated.

Maybe most astounding of all, our brain controls much of this action without our ever being aware of what is happening. Tiny glands deep inside our brain regulate much of our bodily functions. These glands are no larger than an average sized pea. Pretty amazing stuff that they keep us functioning so well.

When I take a moment to contemplate the complexity of our bodies and how everything works together to perfection I am always reminded once again of the Creator who designed such a wondrous thing. I find it amazing to think that I breathe and eat and sleep and never think twice about these functions. My heart beats and my mind works and I never have to stop and tell them to do so.

With such intricate functions it is amazing that our bodies continue to thrive and support our life over decades. It is this that gives me pause and makes me aware that God’s Intelligence is engineered into our genes and DNA. It is another of the many ways I have come to appreciate the Divine Creator and the perfection of his creations.

Divine Creator,

Thank you for my body that sustains and supports my life. I stand in awe of the marvels of the human body and all its intricate workings. It is another of the many gifts from your generous hands.
